1. Introduction
Welcome to Unlock Scripture ("we", "us", "our"). These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Unlock Scripture application, website at unlockscripture.com, and related services (together, the "Service").
By creating an account, accessing, or using the Service, you ("you", "the user") agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, you must not use the Service.
These Terms form a legally binding agreement between you and Unlock Scripture, an Australian business based in Queensland with the contact email ask@unlockscripture.com.
2. Eligibility and Account
2.1 Age requirement
You must be at least eighteen (18) years of age to use the Service. By using the Service, you represent and warrant that you are 18 or older, have the legal capacity to enter into a binding contract under Australian law, will provide accurate information during registration, and will not use the Service to violate any law.
We may suspend or terminate any account where eligibility cannot be verified or where the account is held by a person under 18.
2.2 Account registration
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials, all activity under your account, promptly notifying us of any suspected unauthorised access at ask@unlockscripture.com, and keeping your information current.
2.3 One account per person
Accounts are personal and non-transferable. You may not share, sell, or allow others to use your credentials.
3. Subscription, Billing, Refunds and Cancellation
3.1 Plans and pricing
- Monthly: AUD $9.99/month, recurring monthly
- Annual: AUD $79.99/year, recurring annually
All prices are in Australian dollars and include applicable GST where required.
3.2 Free plan
Unlock Scripture includes a free plan that does not require payment details. The free plan provides full Bible reading together with your reading progress and streak. AI-assisted features — including verse breakdowns, guided prayer and scripture insights — require a paid subscription.
There is no free trial period. Paid subscriptions begin, and your payment method is charged, at the time you subscribe.
3.3 Payment processing
All payments processed via Stripe. By subscribing, you authorise charges to your payment method for subscription fees, applicable taxes, and failed-payment retries. Card details are entered directly into Stripe and not stored on our servers.
3.4 Auto-renewal
Subscriptions auto-renew at each billing period's end at the then-current rate. By subscribing, you consent to auto-renewal.
3.5 Cancellation
Cancel anytime via Manage Subscription in Settings (Stripe-hosted portal) or by emailing ask@unlockscripture.com. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
3.6 Refunds and the Australian Consumer Law
Subscription fees are non-refundable once a billing period has commenced, subject to the consumer guarantees under the Australian Consumer Law (ACL), Schedule 2 of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth). Nothing in these Terms excludes, restricts, or modifies any rights or remedies you may have under the ACL.
If our Service fails to meet a consumer guarantee under the ACL, you may be entitled to a refund, re-supply, or compensation. Contact ask@unlockscripture.com to make a claim.
3.7 Price changes
Price changes take effect at the start of your next billing period with at least 14 days' notice by email or in-app. You may cancel before the change takes effect.
3.8 Failed payments
We may retry failed payments for a reasonable period (typically up to 7 days), restrict access until payment succeeds, and cancel after a reasonable time. We send email notice before suspension or cancellation.
3.9 Promotional offers
Promotional pricing terms apply only to the specific offer and don't modify these Terms more broadly.
4. Use of the Service
4.1 Permitted use
Lawful, personal, non-commercial purposes consistent with these Terms.
4.2 Prohibited conduct
You must not: use the Service unlawfully or fraudulently; access another user's account; reverse-engineer, decompile, scrape, or extract source code or content; transmit viruses or harmful code; use bots or automated systems without permission; resell or commercialise the Service; impair the Service for others; violate Australian or international law; commercialise AI-generated content as your original work.
5. Content and Intellectual Property
5.1 Our content
All content (devotional commentary, prayers, designs, logos, code) is owned by us or licensed to us and protected by Australian and international IP law. You receive a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence for personal non-commercial use through the Service.
5.2 Scripture text
Scripture translations are reproduced under public-domain rights (KJV and similar) or under licence. Attribution displayed where required.
5.3 Your content
You retain ownership of your User Content (journal entries, prayers, reflections, notes). You grant us a worldwide non-exclusive royalty-free licence to store, host, back up, display, and process your User Content to provide the Service, including sending limited portions to AI providers as described in section 6 and our Privacy Policy.
We do not claim ownership of your User Content. We do not use it to train AI models. We do not sell it.
5.4 Feedback
Suggestions and feedback you send us are licensed to us on an unrestricted, perpetual, royalty-free basis.
5.5 Reservation of rights
All rights not expressly granted are reserved.
6. AI-Generated Content
6.1 AI providers
The Service uses Anthropic (Claude) to generate scripture commentary, reflection prompts, guided prayers, and personalised devotional guidance.
6.2 Acknowledgements
AI-generated content may contain errors, inaccuracies, or theological perspectives differing from your beliefs. It's offered as a tool for personal reflection only — not as the official teaching of any church, denomination, or religious authority. We make no warranty of doctrinal accuracy. Use discernment and consult Scripture, prayer, and qualified spiritual leaders. AI is not a substitute for pastoral care or professional spiritual direction.
6.3 AI provider data handling
Inputs you provide (scripture passages, text you enter) are transmitted to the AI provider for processing. Our agreement prohibits them from training on your inputs. See Privacy Policy for full details.
6.4 No commercial use
You may not reproduce, distribute, or commercialise AI-generated content. Personal use only.
7. Spiritual, Mental Health, and Wellness Disclaimer
The Service is for personal spiritual reflection and is not a substitute for professional medical, psychological, psychiatric, or mental health advice; counselling; pastoral or ministerial direction; or crisis intervention services.

Use of the Service is at your own discretion and risk. You're responsible for your own wellbeing.
8. Privacy
Your personal information is handled per our Privacy Policy at unlockscripture.com/privacy. We comply with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.
9. Third-Party Services
The Service integrates with Stripe (payments), Anthropic (AI), and Base44 (hosting). Your use of those services is subject to their own terms and privacy policies. We're not responsible for their acts or omissions.
10. Disclaimers and Warranties
10.1 "As is"
Subject to the consumer guarantees under the ACL, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied.
10.2 No guarantee of outcomes
We don't guarantee the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure, or that AI content will match your beliefs, or that any specific spiritual outcome will result.
10.3 ACL preserved
Non-excludable rights, remedies, and guarantees under the ACL prevail over anything inconsistent in these Terms. Services must be provided with due care and skill, be fit for disclosed purpose, and be supplied within a reasonable time.
11. Limitation of Liability
11.1 General limitation
To the maximum extent permitted by law and subject to the ACL: our total aggregate liability is limited to fees paid to us in the twelve (12) months preceding the event giving rise to the claim. We're not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages including loss of profits, data, goodwill, or religious or spiritual benefit.
11.2 ACL re-supply election
Where liability cannot be excluded under the ACL but can be limited, we limit our liability to re-supplying the Service or paying the cost of re-supply.
11.3 Force majeure
We're not liable for failure or delay caused by circumstances beyond our reasonable control — natural disasters, war, terrorism, pandemic, government action, third-party service provider outages (Stripe, Anthropic, Base44), or other unforeseeable events.
12. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Unlock Scripture and its directors, employees, contractors, agents, and affiliates from claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and reasonable legal fees arising from your use of the Service, your breach of these Terms, your violation of law or third-party rights, or your User Content.
13. Termination
13.1 By you
Cancel your subscription via Settings and email ask@unlockscripture.com with "Delete my account" to request deletion.
13.2 By us
We may suspend or terminate accounts for material breach, harmful conduct, legal requirement, or Service discontinuation.
13.3 Effect of termination
Your right to use the Service ends. We may delete your account and User Content subject to retention requirements. Surviving sections (IP, disclaimers, limitation, indemnity, dispute resolution, governing law) continue.
13.4 Refunds on termination
Termination for cause (your breach) = no refund. Termination because we discontinue the Service = pro-rated refund of unused prepaid period where reasonable.
14. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms. Material changes notified by email or in-app at least 14 days in advance. Continued use after changes take effect = acceptance.
15. Governing Law and Jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws of Queensland, Australia, and the laws of the Commonwealth of Australia where applicable.
Disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Queensland and the Federal Court of Australia, except as provided in section 16.
16. Dispute Resolution
16.1 Informal resolution first
Contact us at ask@unlockscripture.com in good faith to attempt informal resolution before commencing formal legal action. Most disputes can be resolved this way.
16.2 Non-exclusion of statutory rights
Nothing in this section limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law, your right to lodge a privacy complaint with the OAIC (https://www.oaic.gov.au), or any other statutory right.
17. General Provisions
17.1 Severability
If any provision is invalid, illegal, or unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in full force.
17.2 No waiver
Delay in enforcing any provision is not a waiver of that provision.
17.3 Assignment
You may not assign without our consent. We may assign in connection with merger, acquisition, or sale of business.
17.4 Entire agreement
These Terms together with our Privacy Policy constitute the entire agreement regarding the Service.
17.5 No third-party beneficiaries
These Terms confer no rights on third parties.
